JoAnn Albers Background & Bio
Vision, guidance, teamwork, and dedication are used commonly in “business speak” these days. But finding the embodiment of these characteristics is far from common. And JoAnn Albers, founder of Albers Consulting LLC, is an uncommon woman whose core values, combined with exceptional business acumen and talent, has brought success to whoever she has been affiliated with. Over a span of thirty-five years, JoAnn Albers has served both for-profit and non-profit organizations, successfully conceptualizing and implementing sales and marketing programs.
While serving as Marketing Representative for Development Management Associates, a professional fundraising consulting firm in Long Beach, California, JoAnn helped the firm increase business by 40% through direction and implementation of sales and promotional activities, including the coordinating of Fund-Raising Feasibility and Planning Studies.
After co-founding the non-profit group “Women for Children” in 1992 to benefit Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon, the group netted $1.3 Million over five years. She implemented a two-day event which included the “Heart of Doernbecher” Auction that became the signature event for the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation in 1997. (Since its inception, this event alone has raised an additional $20 million for the hospital foundation.) JoAnn’s leadership while during her six-year membership on the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital Foundation Board and service on the Capital Campaign Committee helped raise $35 million towards new hospital construction.
In 1999, JoAnn joined the Campaign Council for the nationally renowned Women’s Health Center, Oregon Health & Sciences University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon. She took a leadership role in organizational development, cultivation, community involvement and awareness of women’s health issues, as well as fundraising to build a new Women’s Health Center. JoAnn co-chaired the public opening of the OHSU Center for Women’s Health in 2006, where she focused on obtaining media support and securing community leaders for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. As a result, over 4,000 people attended the public opening event for the Center.
JoAnn became a member of the OHSU Foundation Board and Nominating Committee in 2000, where for eight years her main responsibilities included cultivating relationships and securing new trustees, as well as focusing on women’s health. She also served on the Marketing Committee directing branding efforts and promotional initiatives for OHSU. Over JoAnn’s tenure, over $300 Million in funds were raised for the University by the OHSU Board of Trustees.
One of five founding members to establish the Circle of Giving campaign to fund research grants for the Center for Women’s Health, JoAnn was instrumental in bringing together a community of the city’s leading women to support women’s health research grants and awareness. In three years, she helped raise over $600,000 for women’s health research. The program has currently raised $3 million for women’s health research and continues to grow to this day. Year after year, the Circle of Giving invests in innovative, and promising research, the funded researchers have brought in over $30 million to the University making possible leading-edge research in the field of women’s health.
