Board members are recruited for a variety of reasons.\u00a0 Some individuals are talented fundraisers and are sought by charities for that reason.\u00a0 Others bring credibility and prestige to an organization.\u00a0 But whatever the reasons for service the principle role of a board member is stewardship.\u00a0 The directors of a non-profit are ultimately responsible for the management of the affairs for the charity.\u00a0 This requires active participation.\u00a0 One of the most important functions of the board is keeping the resources and efforts focused on the charity\u2019s mission.\u00a0 This requires the board to have an adequate understanding of the organization\u2019s programs, people, and resources available to achieve the organization\u2019s goals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
